Roman Catholic Archdiocese of León

The Archdiocese of León (Latin: Archidioecesis Leonensis, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de León ) is a location in Mexico Roman Catholic archdiocese based in León.

History

The bishopric of León was born on January 26, 1863 by Pope Pius IX. built out of territory of the Archdiocese of Michoacan and this is a suffragan. On October 13, 1973, the diocese of Leon were parts of its territory from the foundation of the built with the Apostolic Constitution Scribae illi Evangelico Diocese of Celaya. The bishopric of León was assumed on November 5, 1988, Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Nihil optabilius the Archdiocese of San Luis Potosí, suffragan. On 3 January 2004, the diocese of Leon were from parts of its territory to the foundation of built by the Apostolic Constitution Venerabiles Fratres Diocese of Irapuato.

The bishopric of León was born on 25 November 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Mexicani populi to the archbishopric.
