Rueyres is a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Rueyres is located on 619 m above sea level. Level, 20 km north of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The scattered village extends on a plateau of the northeastern Gros de Vaud, east of the valley of Sauteru, in the Vaud Mittelland.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1177 under the name Rueria. Later, the names Ruvoeri ( 1228 ), en Ruere (1288 ) and Ruveri, Riuori and Ravoire published. The place name derives from the Latin word roboretum (oak grove ).

Since the Middle Ages Rueyres was under the Lords of Bercher, which were in turn vassals of the lords of Cossonay. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Rueyres belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Echallens.

Attractions

The Church of Rueyres was rebuilt in 1738. In the center are some typical farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
