Sailing at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Star

The sailing competition in the Star class at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held in the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy from July 29 to August 5, 2012. 32 athletes (16 crews ) took part.

The competition was conducted in ten races ( fleet race ). The first nine races were completed by all starters. Here, points were awarded for the place number. In the final account, the worst result was deleted. The ten sailors with the lowest score were qualified for the medal race. The previous points were taken, but doubles the placement points for the medal race.

For false starts ( OCS on course side), and a race crash ( DNF ) received the glider in question 17 points. Also in disqualification ( DSQ ), the starter got 17 points. In addition, the jury could also distribute throughout the race penalty points (DPI = Discretionary Penalty Imposed ).

Robert Scheidt (BRA ) with five Olympic medals ( 2 gold, 2 x silver, 1 bronze ) along with his compatriot Torben Grael ( 2/1/2 ) and the British Ben Ainslie ( 4/1/0 ) of the sailors with the most Olympic medals. Since 1932 in the Olympic sailing program, this was the last Olympic regatta in the Star class.
