Sascha Goc

Sascha Goc ( born April 14, 1979 in Calw, Baden- Württemberg ) is a German professional ice hockey player who plays for the Schwenningen Wild Wings from the German Ice Hockey League since the 2013/14 season. During his career he was active among other things for the New Jersey Devils and the Tampa Bay Lightning from the American National Hockey League. He stood several times in the Germany squad, with whom he participated in four World Cups, as well as the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Sascha Goc is the older brother of the NHL playing for the Florida Panthers Marcel Goc, and the under contract with the Adler Mannheim Nikolai Goc.

Career

Sascha Goc began his hockey career with the ESG Esslingen, from where he transferred to the offspring to Schwenningen 1994. With 16 years of right-handed shooter already completed his first game at the Schwenningen Wild Wings in the DEL. During the 1996/97 season, the trained defenders belonged to the tribe of cadres and 41 times was used, he was able to score four points scorer. Due to the good performances and the talent scouts from the National Hockey League on Goc were next to the person in charge of some DEL clubs, attentive, so that it has been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1997 by the New Jersey Devils in the sixth round at 159th position. The defender was still a game time at SERC, before he moved to the U.S. in summer 1998. The last season with the Wild Wings was positive for him. His first year in North America, the right-handed shooter spent mainly in the American Hockey League with the Albany River Rats, the former farm team of the New Jersey Devils. The Council Goc continuously performed well. After he was able to increase his points haul in the following years and eventually was one of the best defenders in the team point, he got the chance to prove themselves at the New Jersey Devils. However Goc completed only 13 NHL games in which he scored no points, so it transferred the management of the Devils at the beginning of the season 2001 /02 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Sascha Goc finally made barely hopes for a renewed, long-term commitment in the NHL and accepted a contract offer from the Adler Mannheim of the DEL, where he experienced his most successful athletic time. In 2003, the defender won by a 5-4 playoff victory against the Cologne Sharks of the newly introduced German Ice Hockey Cup. With the Lower Sascha Goc reached in his first year, the play-off semi-finals after the club was successful in the quarterfinals 4-3 games against ERC Ingolstadt, but eventually lost out to the Polar Bears Berlin 0-3 defeats. In 60 games for the scorpions the defender was able to achieve 36 points, which represented his best to date record in the German top flight. Since the 2008/ 09 season Sascha Goc holds with 24 goals in the main draws and four goals in the play-offs the DEL record for most goals scored by a defender in a season. In total he scored this season 40 points in the main round and another 14 points in the play- offs. In the following season Sascha Goc was able to record again 17 goals and 41 points in the main round. So again he scored the most goals, and this time also the most points of a defense in the regular season. With these points yield the defensive players made a great contribution to winning the championship by the Hannover Scorpions. In the season 2010/11 Sascha Goc could build on his achievements last season, scoring with 23 goals and 51 points in turn the most goals and points of defense counsel in the main round. He achieved the best result of his career in the DEL. Due to his performances and his personal commitment, he has since the season 2011/12 Captain of the Hannover Scorpions. Internationally

In addition to his successful career at club level, Sascha Goc was several times in the Germany squad.
