Si Satchanalai District

Amphoe Si Satchanalai ( Thai: อำเภอ ศรีสัชนาลัย ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the province ( Changwat ) Sukhothai in Northern Thailand. The district capital is also called Si Satchanalai.

Location

The city is located about 50 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Sukhothai is located on Maenam Yom ( Yom River ).

Neighboring districts are ( from the southwest clockwise): Amphoe Si the Nakhon, Sawankhalok and Thung Saliam in the province of Sukhothai, Amphoe Thoen in the province of Lampang, Amphoe Wang Chin Phrae province, as well as Amphoe Laplae and Tron in the province of Uttaradit.

History

In the 18th century Si Satchanalai was conquered and destroyed by the Burmese. The residents were relocated to the nearby Sawankhalok. Since 1990, the ruin fields are restored in Old Satchanalai, first the city walls, the Royal Palace and Wat Chang Lom.

The district was renamed in 1939 from Hat Siao in Si Satchanalai.

Management

Amphoe Si Satchanalai is ( tambon) divided into eleven municipalities, which are further subdivided into 148 villages ( Muban ).

Si Satchanalai ( Thai: เทศบาล เมือง ศรีสัชนาลัย ) is a city ( Mueang thesaban ) in the district. It consists of the whole tambon Tha Chai Si Satchanalai and and parts of Nong O.

There is also a small town ( thesaban tambon):

  • Hat Siao ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หาด เสี้ยว ), consisting of parts of the tambon Hat Siao,

In addition, there are eight " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
