Simon Eder

Simon Eder ( born February 23, 1983 in Zell am See) is an Austrian biathlete and police officer.

Life

Simon Eder, sports soldier from Saalfelden starts for HSV Saalfelden and is coached by his father, the former Weltklassebiathleten Alfred Eder. Since 1995 he runs Biathlon, since 1998 he is a member of the Austrian national team. His international career began in 2002 at the Junior World Championships in Ridnaun, where he won a gold medal in singles. At the European Championships in Kontiolahti in the same year he missed fourth in the pursuit of a medal just barely. At the beginning of the season 2002/ 03 he won a sprint and pursuit race at two European Cup races in Obertillach and was there and then in Forni Avoltri once each second in the sprint. With these excellent results it was first used in Ruhpolding at a sprint in a biathlon World Cup race, the race but did not finish. The subsequent World Junior Championships in Kościelisko brought no outstanding results. For this he won the sprint and silver in the pursuit at the European Championships in Forni Avoltri.

In the 2003 /04 season Eder launched in the European Cup and reached the best result a third in a single Obertilliach. On this route he missed fourth barely a medal at the junior world championships in Haute Maurienne, but won bronze in the sprint. The 2004 European Championships in Minsk went as well as the 2005 is not successful after a weak European Cup season in Novosibirsk. Since the start of the season in Ostersund 2006/ 07 Eder is part of the Austrian starting field for the World Cup. In a pursuit in Hochfilzen he came in 22nd for the first time in the points. With the season he reached the beginning of 2007 in Ruhpolding even a fifth. In Antholz Eder launched for the first time at Biathlon World Championships. In the individual he was only 68, with the Austrian squadron he came to a good sixth place.

His final breakthrough Eder in the 2007/ 08 season. Five times he was also placed in the top ten of the World Cup. In the mass start at Holmenkollen in Oslo and in the sprint of Pyeongchang, he finished with seven rank his best to date placement. In the Biathlon World Championships 2008 in Östersund, he competed in five races. With the season he missed a medal in fourth just barely, in the mass start Eder was 15, in a single season, the 20th, he finished in 18th place overall. Even better was the following season 2008/09. In Antholz Eder ran before in January 2009 in a pursuit race from 19th place to second place. Finally, he won the mass start race at the World Cup Final of the season 2008/2009 in Khanty-Mansiysk. The six of his previously best World Cup results reached the Austrians in the season. Good ran the World Championships in Pyeongchang. In the sprint and mass start he ran to eighth, in the pursuit race to 14th place. He also won with Daniel Mesotitsch, Landertinger and Christoph Sumann in the relay race the silver medal behind the Norwegians. In pursuit World Cup race in December 2009 in Hochfilzen Eder reached the first Austrian biathlete a World Cup podium of the Austrian biathlon facility.

At the Olympic Winter Games 2010, the 4th place was his best result in the individual pursuit. Together with Landertinger, Daniel Mesotitsch and Christoph Sumann he won the silver medal in the relay event. Furthermore Eder showed places 6 in singles, 11 in the sprint and ranked 25th in the mass start. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014, he missed by a 7th place in the sprint and pursuit with a 4th place in the individual competition again just his first individual medal. With the relay, which started four years ago in the same occupation, he won bronze.

2009 Eder was awarded the Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria.

In January 2011, Eder began his four -year education as a police elite athletes at the federal police.
