Slaven Bilić

Slaven Bilic [ bi ː slaʋɛn litɕ ] ( born September 11, 1968 in Split ) is a former Croatian footballer and current coach of the Turkish football club Beşiktaş Istanbul.

Playing career

Association

1987 moved Bilic on into the professional squad of HNK Hajduk Split. To get match practice, borrowed the one defensive player from winter to NK Primorac 1929. For the following season Bilic did not return; the Hajduk managers gave him on loan for the season from 1988/89 to HNK Šibenik. Upon his return, the defender played in the Split starting eleven. In 1992, he won the Croatian championship his first national title.

His athletic most moving time had Bilic at Karlsruher SC. There, he scored in the seasons from 1993 to 1996 a total of five goals - but also received three restraining orders - and qualified with the KSC twice for the UEFA Cup competition. He was part of the team of the KSC, which, inter alia, the FC Valencia 7-0 hit in the 1993/94 season in the UEFA Cup, in which the 7:0 Bilic headed home, and was able to advance to the semifinals. Coaching career

Prior to his time as a Croatian national coach he had already trained the Croatian U- 21 team. The journal World Soccer has named Bilic for his work on the world's best youth coach of the year 2006. From the International Federation of Football History & Statistics ( IFFHS ), he was voted as the second best coach in the world in 2007.

From 2006 to 2012, he was coach of the senior national team of Croatia. This he did in the final round of the European Football Championship in 2008 and moved to the quarterfinals of the tournament. There, the team retired, however, from 1:3 on penalties to Turkey. For the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, his team did not qualify. In the 2012 European Football Championship Croatia difference in the group stage behind the eventual finalists, Spain and Italy.
