The Municipality of Sør- Aurdal in Norway has a total area of 1109 km ² with a north- south length of 47.3 km and an east- west distance of 42.3 km. With a population of 3145 inhabitants ( as of March 31, 2013), the population density is 2.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The municipality is located in the west of Fylke Oppland and is managed by the City Bagn. The highest point in the municipality is the Ørneflag with a height of 1,243 meters. About 20 percent of the landscape rises over 900 meters, the lowest point is in Begnawasserlauf with 150 meters. 60 percent of the area consists of productive forest.

Area attractions include the Stave Church Reinli, the stave church Hedalen and below this outdoor museum Bautahaugen Samlinger.
