States and federal territories of Malaysia

The South East Asian country Malaysia is in 13 states ( Negeri ) and 3 federal territories ( Wilayah Persekutuan ) divided.

Geography

East Malaysia is formed from the located on the island of Borneo states of Sarawak and Sabah as well as the existing of a barrier island group Labuan Federal Territory.

The remaining eleven states and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are located on the Malay Peninsula and offshore islands and are summarized as West Malaysia.

State Government

In the top of the governments of the 13 states is an elected from each Parliament Prime Minister. In eight countries, the Barisan Nasional government, the five states of Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor are governed by the 2008 elections by the opposition at the federal level Pakatan Rakyat.

The three federal territories are administered by the Ministry of the Federal Territories of the Central Government.

Head of state

Nine of the 13 states are constitutional monarchies, which are also known as Malaya. These include the seven Sultanate of Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, Selangor and Terengganu. In Perlis, the monarch carries the title of Raja. In contrast to the aforementioned hereditary monarchies in Negeri Sembilan is the head of state, the Yamtuan Besar, elected by local rulers.

The four that emerged from the former British crown colonies states Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak each have an appointed Governor of the Central Government as the representative head of state.
