Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's 400 metre individual medley
The competition over 400 meters medley of women in the 2012 Olympics in London was held on 28 July 2012 at the London Aquatics Centre. 36 athletes took part.
There were five heats. The eight fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the final, which was held on the same day.

Final
Winner Ye Shiwens performance caused discussions. Shiwen, at No. 4 before the last 100 meters, took the leading US -American Elizabeth Beisel on the freestyle position three and a half seconds and took the victory in world record time. She swam the first 50 meters in 29.75 seconds ( Lagenweltrekordler Michael Phelps of the USA needed for 29.88 seconds ). The last train managed Shiwen even in 28.93 seconds. Ryan Lochte ( USA), won 15 minutes earlier than 400 meters medley of men, took 29.10 seconds for the last train.
