Tarra-Bulga-Nationalpark

The Tarra Bulga - National Park is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of Victoria, 158 kilometers east of Melbourne and 27 km south of Traralgon in the Strzelecki Mountains. There you can find the last digits of the eucalyptus primary forest, as he once covered the entire region.

History

The area was first declared in 1904 Bulga National Park, which covered only 20 ha. 1909 was built near the Tarra Valley National Park. Over the decades, the two parks have been growing steadily and finally in 1986 summarized under the present name.

Vegetation

The deep river valleys of the park are dominated by moist Sclerophyllwald (mainly mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans ) ). The undergrowth consists mainly of Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon ), Pomaderris ( Pomaderris aspera ) and tree ferns ( Dicksonia antarctica, Cyathea australis). At some spots in the park you will also find cold - temperate rainforest with Myrthenbuchen ( Nothofagus cunninghamii ). The heights are covered with low, sparse forest, mostly Eukalypti of species and Peppermint Gum.

Attractions

In the park you will find a large suspension bridge over the valley and many hiking trails. There you can gain an impression of how the forest has once looked in large parts of present-day Victoria.
