Cobboboonee-Nationalpark

The Cobboboonee National Park is a national park in the south west of the Australian state of Victoria, about 300 km west of Melbourne and 65 km southeast of Mount Gambier.

The park, which was known until 2009 Cobboboonee State Forest closes, immediately east of the Lower Glenelg National Park. From the swamps in the park of the Fitzroy River rises.

Flora

In the park there are acacia forests of the species Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon ), heaths and marshes. In the forests there are also tree ferns and many species of fungi.

Fauna

In the woods there are many endangered species of owls ( Powerful Owl, Masked Owl ). In the swamps to find the swamp bag mouse ( Antechinus minimus ) and the Sumpfskink ( Swamp Skink ). In addition, you meet in the park the spotted quoll, the Long-nosed kangaroo rabbits, bats ( Bent -winged Bat), the Yellow-bellied gliders, the kingfisher, the Bandicoot, wallabies and eastern gray kangaroo.

Culture

The country was formerly inhabited by Aboriginesstamm the Gunditjmara. Even today there are many of their places of worship in the park.

Leisure activities and facilities

In the park there are trails with a total length of 250 km. Even with the horse, you can explore the park on a 60 km long bridle path. Several picnic areas are equipped with toilets and barbecue facilities.
