Tavarnelle Val di Pesa

Barberino Val d'Elsa is a municipality with 7790 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Florence, located in the Tuscany region.

Geography

The municipality extends over some 56 km ². It is located about 30 km south of Florence in the valley of the river Pesa. The place is also in the area of Chianti.

To the community includes the hamlets ( frazioni ) Sambuca Val di Pesa, San Donato in Poggio and Badia a Passignano.

The neighboring municipalities are Barberino Val d' Elsa, Castellina in Chianti ( SI), Certaldo, Greve in Chianti, Montespertoli and San Casciano in Val di Pesa.

History

Barberino was a Roman station, and was first mentioned as Tabernulae documented in the year 790.

Rocca dei Dragoni
