Tom Daschle

Thomas Andrew " Tom" Daschle ( born December 9, 1947 in Aberdeen, South Dakota) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party.

His ancestors came from the village Kleinliebental in Odessa and the Black Sea were German. From 1979 to 1987 he was Member of the U.S. House of Representatives and represented South Dakota from 1987 to 2005 as a senator in the U.S. Senate. Daschle lost in 2004 to Republican John Thune his re-election.

Daschle was from 1995 to 2005 leader of the Democrats in the Senate from 1995 to 2001 and from 2003 to 2005 as Minority Leader from 2001 to 2003 as Majority Leader. On November 19, 2008 it was announced that Daschle was provided as the new health minister in the cabinet of President Barack Obama. On 3 February 2009, he withdrew his candidacy because of errors in his tax return.
