Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (Russian Торпедо Нижний Новгород ) is a Russian ice hockey club from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It was founded on 1947 as a Torpedo Gorky and was for many years the top division of the Soviet Union. The home matches of the club were held in the Sports Palace Konowalenko which is after Wiktor Konowalenko, one of the most famous Russian goalkeeper, named. Since 2007, the Sports Palace of Trade Unions is the home ground for torpedoes.

History

Since the establishment of Torpedo Gorky played the first team of the club in the Soviet league and could reach the 1961 runner-up. In the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Gorky was again renamed Nizhny Novgorod. Logically also changed the hockey club changed its name to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.
