Formation

After the closure of WCW and ECW in May 2001, known as Southern and Cruiserweight wrestling martial art lost its most important platforms. This gap in the market wanted to use and thus gain fans, where the product of the now dominant WWE (formerly WWF) did not appeal to TNA. J Sports Entertainment ( a company with Jeff Jarrett as General Manager and his father Jerry Jarrett as President ) was then founded TNA Wrestling On May 10, 2002. Total Nonstop Action held its first weekly PPV on 19 June 2002 in Huntsville (Alabama ) from.

While other leagues, such as World Wrestling All-Stars, who wanted to use the space after the closing of WCW and ECW, again disappeared from the scene, TNA could assert itself. The foundation of TNA was a new opportunity for Jeff Jarrett, after he could not find work after the failure of WCW Vince McMahon.

After the founding TNA lost a lot of money, which meant that the main investor, the HealthSouth Corporation withdrew the financial support ( HealthSouth itself had problems, there have been investigations into accounting irregularities ). In October 2002, Jerry Jarrett, therefore, sold his majority stake in the private company Panda Energy International. October 31, 2002 Panda Energy and J Sports and Entertainment founded the private company TNA Entertainment LLC ( J Sports and Entertainment was later resolved). Jeff Jarrett was Vice President, while Dixie Carter, the daughter of the chairman and CEO of Panda Energy, Robert W. Carter, who was a former publicist for TNA, was appointed President. Panda Energy owns 71 % of TNA Entertainment, LLC.

TNA lost since the takeover by Panda Energy but still money ( an estimated expenditure of $ 1,000,000 per month without considering the revenue), but Panda Energy has repeatedly acknowledged despite purchase offers by other companies to their involvement in TNA.

Development of the business model

The original business model of TNA was in some respects different from the WWE. By avoiding tours and free weekly broadcasts the costs should be kept low. The system of programming originally consisted of weekly pay- per-views in the cable network.

The weekly PPVs were available for $ 9.95, so much cheaper than the monthly major events of the WWE. The shows were eventually transferred from March 2004 with a delay of 6 months on the Wrestling Channel free, which was the first step of the organization in the international market.

Initial calculations showed that about 50,000 PPV purchases were needed per week to break even. The actual figures were according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, however, only 5000-15000 purchases per week. After 111 weeks TNA had on 9 September 2004, therefore, set the weekly PPVs. On November 7, 2004 held the TNA PPV Victory Road first three hours of 2004, the organization to which something could have over 10,000 purchases.

On June 4, 2004, they began airing the TV show TNA Impact on the Fox Sports Net. TNA used at this show for the first time the six-sided ring. By March 2006, the sports beverage manufacturers Morphoplex was the main sponsor of TNA and paid monthly $ 200,000 to TNA.

On 7 November 2005, a contract was signed with Midway Games. In the past, video games were an important source of income for other wrestling organizations. The game, which has the working title TNA Impact should appear in the course of 2008 for PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Wii.

TNA held on 17 March 2006, the first house show from in the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. It was first signed an agreement with the United Wrestling Federation, which you could host a series of TNA house shows in the states on the Atlantic coast and in the southeast, the majority should take place in Virginia. This agreement has now been lifted, however, so that henceforth TNA House produces its own shows.

On 12 May 2011, the weekly main show TNA iMPACT! officially renamed Impact Wrestling.

Since November 2011, TNA is working with Ohio Valley Wrestling. It acts as a development territory OVW, so that built up in the future by OVW wrestler for TNA wrestler and TNA can take advantage of the promotion of Daniel Briley for training purposes. The company is known mainly as a result of cooperation with the WWE, emerged stars like John Cena or Randy Orton under their direction.
