Tržič

Tržič ( German Neumarktl ) is a municipality in the northern part of Slovenia.

Geography

The municipality is located in the region of Carniola ( Upper Carniola) and is bordered to the north by the Austrian state of Carinthia. The historically important, the Karawanken overcome road link across the Loiblpass ( Slow Ljubelj ) runs through the city.

History

Historically, the city that for centuries a German language island was formed, considerably, mainly known through folk art and crafts. The settlement, which is considered today as fundamental settlement of the city, already in the Roman period was polje on the way from Virunum to Gosposvetsko known in Emona. When the original settlement was destroyed by an avalanche of snow, the residents moved into lower-lying parts of the valley. On December 12, 1492 granted the Emperor Frederick III. known today as Tržič settlement market rights.

The blazon of the city got its present form on 1 October 1997. It consists of a silver castle with four openings defense against a blue background. The flag has the same colors and is cut vertically. 1811 was a black year for the inhabitants. By a big fire more than 200 houses were destroyed. During reconstruction lays down special provisions. The metal shutters and doors - unusual for that time, fire safety measure - were the European peculiarity. In 1846, the shoemaking was designated as commercial. This was very important for Tržič because almost every house was a cobbler's workshop here. 300 years shoes have been produced here and the city was considered shoe capital of the former Yugoslavia. By the end of the Habsburg Empire Tržič belonged to the crown land of Carniola, the location had been the seat of the judicial district of the same name Neumarktl and District Kranj ( Kranj ) belonged.

The Second World War made ​​no arc around the city. In June 1943, the first detainees were brought to the Loibl. Nearby was a concentration camp and the residents tried to give the prisoners food and cigarettes, while the SS soldiers they loaded onto trucks.
