Tunisian Pirate Party

Pirate Party of Tunisia

As Tunisian Pirate Party two parties in Tunisia are called. Both see themselves as part of the international movement of Pirate Parties.

The first Tunisian Pirate Party (Arabic حزب القراصنة التونسي Hizb al - Qarāṣina at- TUNISI, French Parti Pirate tunisien ) was founded on 27 September 2010. The formal approval was initially denied the party, thereby participating in the election to the Constituent Assembly of Tunisia in 2011 was not possible. On 12 March 2012 she was admitted as a political party, so she was the first official Pirate Party on the African continent. It is part of the informal African Pirate Party.

The Pirate Party was during the revolution in Tunisia 2010/2011 known as a number of members and sympathizers of the party, including Azyz Amami and Slim Amamou, were arrested for their participation in the protests; Amami was injured in the detention itself by security forces. Slim Amamou was appointed a few days after the flight of President Zine el- Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011 to the Tunisian Secretary of State for Youth and Sports. However, Amamou was not a member of the Tunisian Pirate Party, but was involved in the founding of the second Pirate Party.

The Pirate Party Tunisia (Arabic حزب القراصنة ) was established on 7 April 2012. Former Secretary of State Slim Amamou is the most prominent member of the party. The party was in April 2013 Member of the Pirate Parties International.
