UEFA Futsal Euro 2012

The 8th European Futsal Championship 2012 was held in Croatia from January 31 to February 11. At the tournament participated twelve teams that competed first in groups and then in the knockout system against each other. The Spanish team won for the fourth time in a row the European title and secured a 3-1 win over Russia the sixth overall tournament success.

Venues

The European Championship was held for the fourth time at two different venues. The main venue was the Arena Zagreb in Zagreb, the capital, in addition to preliminary groups B and D and two quarter-finals also the semi-finals and the finals were held. The hall is equipped with a capacity of 15,024 spectators, the largest in Croatia.

The Spaladium Arena in Split served as a second venue. In addition to the qualifying groups A and C was with 10,931 spectators second largest sports hall in Croatia also the setting for two quarter-finals.

Participant

The 2012 European Championship was played for the second time with twelve teams. Croatia qualified automatically as hosts. To the remaining 11 places fought a total of 42 nations. In the first round, the 24 teams were playing with the worst UEFA coefficients into four groups against each other. The group winners came in the next round, where they, together with the 18 remaining teams were drawn into six groups of four. The group winners and five best runners qualified finally for the final round.
