Väinö Kokkinen

Väinö Anselmi Kokkinen ( born November 25, 1899 in Hollola, † August 27 1967 in Kouvola ) was a Finnish wrestler.

Career

Väinö Kokkinen began at a young age in the club Lahti Taimi who belonged to the Finnish Workers' Sports Federation TUL, with the rings. In 1926 he joined the club from Helsinki Helsingin Atleettiklubi while the association. He belonged now to a club of the International Wrestling Federation belonged. Väinö Kokkinen was an extremely successful wrestler. This was also the Swedish wrestler King Ivar Johansson to feel the lost three times at the beginning of his career in international championships against Kokkinen. Two Olympic victories were the highlight in Kokkinens career, which ended in 1936.

Kokkinen fought in 1918 in the Finnish Civil War of the Red Guards and was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison. The sentence was dropped again.

Successes in Finnish Championships

Kokkinen 1924 and 1925 champion and 1922 runner-up of the Federation TUL middleweight and Finnish Champion 1926, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1932 respectively in the Middleweight, Greco-Roman style, and in 1934 at light heavyweight. In 1936 he became vice-champion at middleweight.
