Vänersborg Municipality

The community Vänersborg is located on the southwestern tip of Lake Vänern in Västergötland and Dalsland the Swedish provinces (administrative county of Västra Götaland County ) about 85 km north-east of Gothenburg. Administrative center is the city Vänersborg, other villages are Brålanda, Frändefors, Vargön and other smaller villages.

Geography

The municipality comprises the Vänersborg Vänersnäs peninsula east of Vänersborg which extends about 15 kilometers to the Vänern. The eastern boundary of the parish form the mesas Hallenberg and Hunneberg ( about 10 kilometers east of Vänersborg ), since the 16th century royal hunting area with particularly dense elk population. Both Vänersnäs like the two mesas were settled early, followed by numerous archaeological finds, such as the Hästevads stenar point.

However, the largest part of the municipal area stretches along the western shore of Lake Vänern ( about 25 kilometers to the north), which extends the Dalbo level in the interior.

Economy

The municipality is mainly dominated by the service sector Vänersborg whose center is the city Vänersborg. Larger industrial enterprises, there are mainly in place Vargön and in Brålanda. Agriculture is focused on the western part of the municipality.
