Vellerot -lès- Belvoir is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vellerot -lès- Belvoir is located on 610 m, 7 km north of Sancey -le- Grand and about 23 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, a slightly elevated position at the southern foot of the Lomont on the northern edge of the basin of Sancey ( Vallon de Sancey ).

The area of ​​6.04 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the approximately 2 km wide valley of Sancey, which is on average 570 m. This area is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. In the southeast of communal land extends to the foot of the Mont de Belvoir. To the north, the area extends over a relatively steep, wooded slope up to the ridge of Lomont. History

In the Middle Ages Vellerot belonged to the rule Passavant, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 115 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vellerot -lès- Belvoir is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 205 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1990s.
