Vermes, Switzerland

Vermes was a municipality in the district Delémont the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name horse 's mouth is no longer used today. On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Montsevelier and Vicques the new municipality of Val Terbi.

Geography

Vermes is at 566 m above sea level. M., 12 km east-southeast from the cantonal capital Delémont ( straight line ). History

First mention is Vermes in the year 769 as Verteme that is derived from the Gallic word VERTIMA ( summit, top ). Between 1793 and 1815 belonged Vermes to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Pierre -et -Paul was built in 1723 with the inclusion of the foundations of a medieval chapel. In several phases, the church was extended at the end of the 18th century.
