Veronika Velez-Zuzulová

Veronica Velez- Zuzulová ( born July 15, 1984 in Bratislava as Veronika Zuzulová ) is a Slovak ski racer. She specializes in the slalom and giant slalom.

Biography

1997 Zuzulová won the slalom at the Whistler Cup and 1999 the giant slalom at the Whistler Cup and Trofeo Topolino. As of the 2000 /01 season, she raced in the European Cup. They finished second in the slalom discipline rating in 2002 and 2004, the second the first place. Your first race at the Alpine Skiing World Cup was on 28 October 2000, the giant slalom in Soelden. In November 2000 Zuzulová earned their first slalom and took it her first World Cup points. They recorded their first major success in 2002 when she in Italian Sella Nevea before Maria Riesch Junior World Champion in slalom was. In the following years the slalom was her special discipline and they started in the World Cup only occasionally in the giant slalom.

Zuzulová was able to place first time in 2002 in the World Cup in the top 10 in the slalom at Åre. On 8 February 2004, she succeeded to the third place in the slalom in Zwiesel her first podium and in the season 2004/ 05 they reached with three top-10 results for the first time a place in the top ten in the slalom World Cup. In the 2005/06 season but remained a 16th place in the slalom in Spindleruv Mlyn her best result. In the season 2006/ 07 they reached three third places in Kranjska Gora, in the Sierra Nevada and in Lenzerheide and four top-10 places, which she finished fifth in the slalom World Cup. Since that winter starts again regularly in giant slalom at the World Cup, but does not manage to connect their slalom results. Even at a few super- combinations they took from 2006 to 2007 in part.

In the Alpine World Skiing Championships 2007 in Åre was Zuzulová ninth in the super combined, 13th in slalom and 21st in the giant slalom. The 2007/08 season was the best so far of her career. In the slalom, the Slovak drove in every race in the top -10 and it reached three second places and one third place. At the end of the season ranked third in the Zuzulová slalom discipline standings.

In the following two years, they could not connect to these successes. In the winter of 2008/ 09 she went only twice in the top ten and in the season 2009 /10, they do only twice, as each 15th in the slalom in Zagreb and Maribor to score. At the beginning of that winter she won, however, the first held in halls Championship. At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, she took tenth place in the slalom.

In the season 2010/11 Zuzulová could again increase significantly in the World Cup. She drove in seven slaloms into the top ten, achieved two podiums and finished fifth in the slalom World Cup. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, she was tenth in the slalom and 15th in giant slalom. As good as the previous year was the World Cup season 2011/12. Zuzulová ran three times on the podium in slalom, missing from Åre her first World Cup victory by a hundredth of a second. In the slalom World Cup, it improved by one position to fourth place. They also decided with three wins the slalom standings of the European Cup for themselves.

In April 2012, she married her French in Bratislava conditioning coach Romain Velez, since the 2012/13 season it starts under the name Veronica Velez- Zuzulová. After a total of 13 podium finishes ( six times a second, and seven others) she succeeded on December 29, 2012 at slalom in Semmering, the first World Cup victory. This was also the first victory in alpine Ski World Cup for Slovakia at all. Three days later she won the City event in Munich against Tina Maze.
