Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in southeastern Vettweiß in Düren and bordered with a small piece to the Rhine -Erft and to the district of Euskirchen with the city Zuelpich in the east, southwest and west on the communities Nideggen and Kreuzau, in the north on the community Noervenich.

Vettweiß is the Zuelpicher beading and bordering the North Eifel. Through the middle of the village flows the Neffelbach, the frames a conservation area on both banks.

History

Reclassifications

In 1932, the mayors Froitzheim, Kelz, Sievernich and Füssenich were merged for mayor Vettweiß. From the mayor's Drove Jakobwüllesheim and Soller were added. In 1947 Juntersdorf were added at this office Vettweiß.

The community Vettweiß has been awarded with certificate of the Minister of the Interior of North Rhine -Westphalia on May 24, 1967, the right to bear a coat of arms, banner and seal.

History

The area has been inhabited since around 3000 BC Then the Celts settled here, the Romans and later the Franks.

Vettweiß is first mentioned in a forged document in 989. 1215 inhabited Ritter Otto von Wyss, a Situated in the city castle.

The name originated from " vihsse " (village, stains, white) and is preceded by the word " Veseuniahenis ". Veseuniahenis, abbreviated Vett, was the patron goddess of the village.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

The community has a well-developed road network. Through the municipal area run the B 56 and B 477 is quickly reached the A1 at Zuelpich and the A 61 in Erftstadt.
