Vincent Jay

Vincent Jay (born 18 May 1985 in Saint -Martin- de -Belleville ) is a former French biathlete and Olympic champion in biathlon.

Vincent Jay Biathlon operation since 1999 and was trained by Christian Dumont, Siegfried Mazet and Stéphane Bouthiaux. He began his international career in 2002 at Junior World Cup races. In 2004 he started in Haute Maurienne for the first time at a World Youth Championship and finished as a best finish seventh in singles. After poor results in the following year in Kontiolahti Jay won in 2006 in Presque Isle as cage motor with the relay gold medal, as well as silver in the sprint race. At the Junior European Championship in the same year he won again in Langsdorf silver in the sprint and bronze in the pursuit and in the relay.

His debut in the Biathlon World Cup was Jay at the last World Cup stop of the season 2005/ 06 at Holmenkollen in Oslo. He was 65th in the sprint. 2006/ 07 he competed in five races of the last three World Cup stops, but could not run in the points as well as the start of the 2007/08 season. In the first race of 2007/ 08, a single in Kontiolahti, he missed the World Cup ranks as the 31 only one position. This 30th place, he managed the sprint race in Hochfilzen. In individual Pokljuka he could reach with his best finish rank 26 so far. In the Biathlon World Championships 2008 in Östersund Jay was used in the mixed relay and finished with this seventh.

In the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2008 in Haute Maurienne Jay missed fourth just a medal in the sprint, in pursuit, he was ninth. His final breakthrough in the advanced world leaders managed to Jay in the 2008 /09 season. Up to the Biathlon World Championships 2009 in Pyeongchang, he scored three top-20 finishes its previously best World Cup results, including a tenth place in Hochfilzen Pursuit. At the World Championships in South Korea Jay was used in four races. In the sprint, he was 43, 39 of harassment, 23 of the Single Page. In the relay, the Frenchman missed as a starting runner with Vincent DeFrasne, Martin and Simon Fourcade fourth just a medal. After the World Cup Jay surprisingly won the first race, a single in Vancouver, before the equally surprising second-and third-placed Daniel Böhm and Jeremy Teela. At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver was Jay Olympic champion in the 10 km sprint. In the ensuing pursuit, he reached the third place. For his achievements he was awarded in the summer of the year as a Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Also nationally Jay was very successful. In 2009, he won the title in the mass start and was runner-up with the mixed relay. At the French Championships in 2010 Jay won the title in the mass start and was runner-up with the mixed relay.

During the World Cup in Hochfilzen in December 2012 Vincent Jay said surprisingly the end of his career.
