Frank Ullrich
Frank Ullrich ( born January 24, 1958 in Trusetal ) is a former biathlete and former national coach of the German men 's national team in biathlon. Since the spring of 2012, he is national coach of cross-country skiers.
Sports career
Active biathlete
In 1967 he took part in the GDR children championships. As a coach, attended him at that time Wido Kühne.1972 Ullrich was the winner in the season and earned a second place over 5 km at the Spartakiade.
In 1975 he became Junior World Champion in the relay. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976, he won the 4x7 0.5 - km relay bronze. In 1978 and 1979 he was World Champion on the 10 km distance. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, he repeated the Olympic success and also won over the 20 km silver and a gold medal over 10 km. For these achievements, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. 1984 at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games in Sarajevo, he was standard bearer of the GDR 's Olympic delegation, but was unable to win another medal. Coach
After the active career, which he finished after the death of his wife, and a successful studies at the DHfK was Frank Ullrich 1987 coach of the East German national team and coached since 1998, the German biathlon team.
After the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano was Ullrich successor by Norbert Baier as national coach of the men in the team with Fritz Fischer and brought by his charges since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. As a host of medals at World Championships.
Ullrich ended after the 2010 season his position as national coach of the men. He's since the 2010/2011 season of " head coach young " and therefore also responsible for the " course group II" the German national biathlon team. Private life
Ullrich's father was a judge in biathlon. Frank Ullrich is an honorary citizen of his home town Trusetal.
