Johann Passler

Johann Passler ( born August 18, 1961 in Antholz, South Tyrol ) is a former Italian biathlete. The South Tyrolean participated in four Olympic Winter Games and several Biathlon World Championships. At his time he was one of the best and most successful biathletes his country and was at times a world leader.

Johann Passler lives in Antholz, is a policeman and started for Centro Sportivo Carabinieri. Since the first half of the 1980s he went to the biathlon championship. He regularly achieved standings in the points. Even at the Biathlon World Championships 1983 in Antholz he ran in single to sixth place. A year later, he ran in his first Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo and showed places 35 in the sprint and five in the relay. The Biathlon World Championships 1985 in Ruhpolding were very successful for Passler, he won the sprint bronze medal. 1986 missed the Italians at Holmenkollen in Oslo in the sprint in fourth place another medal and also finished seventh in the individual. A medal he won together with Werner Kiem, Gottlieb Taschler and Andreas Zingerle in third place of the relay race. Not quite on the successes of previous Passler could build 1987 in Lake Placid, where he was 31 in the sprint and 19th in singles. The last major event of the Italian were the Olympic Games in 1994 in Lillehammer. With No. 13 in singles and sixth in the relay race, he reached again good results. He continued his career until 1996, reaching more times results in the top ten. At the end of the career Passler won the overall title of the Biathlon European Cup 1995 /96 apply.
