Andreas Zingerle

Andreas Zingerle ( born November 25, 1961 in Antholz ) is a former Italian biathlete. The South Tyrolean participated in four Olympic Winter Games and several Biathlon World Championships. At his time he was one of the best and most successful biathletes his country and was at times a world leader.

Andreas Zingerle lives in Antholz, works as a police officer and started for Centro Sportivo Carabinieri. He began in 1979 with the sport of biathlon and was active in the Biathlon World Cup since the mid-1980s. A first career highlight was the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, in the sprint he was 29 and reached ninth in the individual a first good placement. The same ranking he reached a year later in the sprint race of the Biathlon World Championships 1985 in Ruhpolding. He also ran on the 27th place in singles. Zingerle was also at the following World Championships in Oslo in single to ninth place in the sprint course and reached thirteen. In 1987, eleventh place added in singles and fourteen in the sprint of Lake Placid. Successful were the second Winter Olympic Games in 1988 the Italian in Calgary. Although he was disqualified in the individual competition, but finished 15th in the sprint and won on the side of Werner Kiem, Gottlieb Taschler and Johann Passler as the final Relay runners the bronze medal.

Also successfully ran the Biathlon World Championships for Zingerle 1989 Feistritz an der Drau, where the Italians came in fifth in singles and Tenth of the sprint. At the World Championships in 1990 Zingerle with Pieralberto Carrara, Wilfried Pallhuber and Passler won the relay gold medal and reached the sprint in fifth and seventh in the individual more good results. Finishing fourth in the sprint and with the season he missed medals and also finished eighth in the individual. In the overall standings of the World Cup Zingerle reached the third place. Also in his third Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992 Zingerle missed the season in fourth place just a medal. In the competitions Saisies the Italian was also 17th in singles and seventh in the sprint.

Zingerle biggest successes followed in the season 1992 /93. He not only won an individual World Cup race in Oberhof, but also the singles title at the Biathlon World Championships 1993 in Borovets. By winning the title with the season to Pallhuber, Passler and Carrara Zingerle became the most successful athletes in the world championships. The last Olympic Winter Games in 1994 in the Italian Lillehammer brought sixth in single another good result. In the sprint, he reached the 44th place, with the season he came on the sixth. In Canmore, he won then with Carrara, Pallhuber and Hubert Leitgeb the world title in the non-Olympic team competition. In Antholz Zingerle 1995 ran at his last World Championships. At the end of his career he reached the 64th place in the individual. After the season, he finished his career.
