Vyt-lès-Belvoir

Vyt -lès- Belvoir is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vyt -lès- Belvoir is located on 570 m, 7 km north-northeast of Sancey -le- Grand and about 22 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, at the southern foot of the Lomont in a valley, which makes the connection between the basin of Sancey and the Valley of Barbèche.

The area of ​​7.54 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the nearly 2 km wide and 4 km long valley that is on average 570 m. It belongs to the catchment area of topographically Barbèche ( left tributary of the Doubs ). This area is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. In the south it is flanked by the plateau of Mont de Belvoir ( to 660 m). To the north, the municipality's area extends over a relatively steep, wooded slope up to the ridge of Lomont. History

In the Middle Ages Vyt belonged to the dominion of Neuchâtel- Urtière. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Pierre -et -Paul was built in the year 1833. It houses a representation of the Cross of Jesus from the 17th century. On the western outskirts of the village there is a chapel, which was consecrated in 1871.

Population

With 182 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vyt -lès- Belvoir is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 249 people were still counting ), was since the early 1970s, a total re- recorded a population increase.
