Wang Thong District

Amphoe Wang Thong ( Thai: อำเภอ วังทอง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the southeastern province of Phitsanulok in northern Thailand.

Geography

Amphoe Wang Thong is located in the southeast of the province of Phitsanulok within the basin of Maenam Nan ( Nan River ) that flow to the Chaophraya. Important sources of water form the Khwae Wang Thong ( Thai: แคว วังทอง - Wang Thong Creek ), which is also called Khek River, and the Maenam Kwai River and Maenam Tha Muen Ram.

At the border of Amphoe Mueang Phitsanulok is the former marshland Bueng Ratchanok, which is a local recreational area. In the grounds are park-like lakes and ponds, hiking trails invite you to walk.

Neighbouring sites

Neighboring counties are seen from the south clockwise from Amphoe Sak Lek Province Phichit, the Amphoe Bang Krathum, Mueang Phitsanulok, Wat Bot, Chat Trakan Nakhon Thai province of Phitsanulok, Amphoe Khao Kho Phetchabun province and Amphoe Noen Maprang turn in Phitsanulok.

History

Amphoe Wang Thong founded in 1895 as Amphoe Nakhon Pa Mak, who bore his name after the central tambon. The head office was located in Ban Sam Ruen. Since the local area is not very conveniently located and is also prone to flooding, moved the administration to the east of the River Wang Thong, where today the local market.

Tambon Phai Lom 1928, Noen Kum and Nakhon Pa Mak were outsourced to a new Amphoe Bang Krathum. At the same time Tambon Kaeng Sopha and Ban sound of Nakhon Thai were added.

Later, when the east bank of the Wang Thong has been cleaned, pulled the main administration building at its present location. The Amphoe was renamed in 1931 in Pa Mak and finally received in 1939 the name of Wang Thong.

Management

Amphoe Wang Thong consists of 11 subdistricts ( tambon), which further into 166 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

Wang Thong ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล วังทอง ) is also the name of a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district. It consists of parts of the tambon Wang Thong.

In addition, there are eleven " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
