Weißkeißel

Weißkeißel, Sorbian Wuskidź, is a municipality in the district Görlitz, in the east of the Free State of Saxony. The place originally belonged to the Sorbian language area of Muskauer dialect.

Geography and transport

The community Weißkeißel lies in the northeastern part of the county near the border with Poland in a wooded area on the northern edge of the Muskauer Heath. To the south of the settlement area extends the Truppenübungsplatz Upper Lusatia, which is about 160 km ², the fourth largest military training area of the Bundeswehr.

Northwest Weißkeißels is only 7 km away the city white water, forms an administrative community with the Weißkeißel. The community Krauschwitz whose eponymous capital Weißkeißels is north, occupies the entire eastern border. In the south, bordering the municipality Rietschen and in the west with the municipality of Boxberg / OL of.

Through the municipal area the federal highway 115 which forms a leader, one of the main roads of the northern district of Bad Muskau from over Krauschwitz, Weißkeißel and Rietschen to Niesky and Görlitz runs.

History

Weißkeißel was first mentioned in a document of 21 September 1452 as Wenzel von Bieberstein the place Muskau was named town. The village was one of 32 souls and was named Weißkesch. The spelling changed over the years several times, usually several views were valid simultaneously - from Weiszkeusel about Weißkhessel and Weißkeisel until the final decision in the first half of the 20th century the spelling Weißkeißel to use officially, the notation Weißkeisel on some entrance signs yet to 1987 stock had.

Local structure

Besides Weißkeißel even still include the settlements Haide ( Hola ) Kaupen ( DOMES ) and Bresina ( Brezina ) to the municipality, only Haide has the status of a community member. The communities Weißkeißel and heath were already working together since 1960, the merger was completed, however, until January 1, 1974.

Regular events

In Weißkeißel month there is a farmers' and livestock market with regional notoriety. Had Supraregional importance for many years the witch burning in Weißkeißel on April 30.
