Wenzenbach lies about 9 km north-east of Regensburg in the planning region Regensburg.

Altitude: between 320-440 m above sea level

History

The name " Wenzenbach " was already in the 9th century " Menzinpah ". This is derived from the proper name " Menzo " ( = Menzo in pah ). This Menzo found the area by the stream, at the foothills of the Middle Bavarian Forest, the settlement and provision for himself and his family for very cheap. Anyway, has made during Bishop " Ambricho " to Regensburg ( 864-891 ) in his " domo episcopi " in marca ad Menzinpah ( = house of the bishop to Menzinpah ) several times certifications concerning the exchange of goods or donations.

Wenzenbach belonged from 1614 to the Counts of Lerch field, from 1751 to the Barons of Stingelheim and was part of the Electorate of Bavaria. Wenzenbach was the seat of the gifted with the blood spell rule Schoenberg.

On September 12, 1504 Battle of Schoenberg took place here. The last major battle of knights of the Middle Ages decided the Landshut War of Succession.

In 1924 the town of Schönberg was officially renamed Wenzenbach.

Incorporations

In 1945 or 1946, a part of the dissolved municipality Kreuth was incorporated. On May 1, 1978 Grünthal and Hauzenstein were added.

Population Development

Policy

Mayor Josef Schmid (CDU group). It was in 2002, successor by Wilfried Misslbeck (CSU ) and won the 2008 runoff election against John Wiesbeck (CSU ).

Coat of arms

Blazon: Through a silver slant beam, which is topped with a red halberd, divided; Up In Blue flying up a silver lark, down five times diagonally left shared by black and gold.

Culture and sights

  • Hauzenstein Castle: A castle was first mentioned in 1372 Hauzenstein. Owner at that time was a Hermann Hauzendorfer. The present structure was built in the late 17th century by the family Freidl of stones of an old castle. Since 1830, it is owned by the Walderdorff family. The plant has a distinctive bell tower with onion-shaped dome and a three- story main building. In the portico is the castle chapel. In the south of the complex there is a baroque garden.
