In office West Rügen based in the community Samtens eleven municipalities have joined forces to do their administrative business. It is named after its location on the island of Rügen in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ).
On January 1, 2005, the Office West Rügen from the former offices Gingst and southwest Rügen, and the formerly official free community Hiddensee was newly formed.
Includes the Office area, from the center of Rügen starting, several peninsulas which interpret to the west, northwest and north. These spurs are separated only by narrow straits of the peninsulas of the bow and Wittow as well as the Fährinsel ( Vorinsel Hidden Lake ). For Office also includes the islands of Hiddensee, Ummanz as well as the smaller islands of hay meadow Liebitz, Öhe and Fährinsel. The office area is oriented predominantly agricultural, but tourism plays an increasingly important role - Hiddensee he is the main source of income. In the south, the Office West Rügen has a share in Stralsund, opposite the city of Stralsund, with the complaints is connected by Rügendamm. Large parts of the office area are part of the National Park Boddenlandscape.
In the south of the highway 96 and the railway line Stralsund - Sassnitz pass through the office area.
