Western Union is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) and the administrative seat of Fayette County in the northeast of the U.S. state of Iowa. In 2010, Western Union had 2486 inhabitants.

Geography

West Union is located at 42 ° 58 'N, 91 ° 48' W42.962777777778 - 91.808333333333 and extends over 7 km ². The village is located about 60 kilometers west of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Wisconsin. The border with Minnesota is located about 65 km north.

Through the town center runs in east-west direction of the U.S. Highway 18 where it crosses the Iowa Highway 150. In the south of the urban area branches at the western end of Iowa Highway 56 in a southeasterly direction. All other roads are subordinate partly unpaved roadways and within local roads.

By George L. Scott Municipal Airport is located on the northeastern outskirts of a small airfield. The nearest major airports are the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids (142 km south) and the Dubuque Regional Airport in Dubuque at the junction of the states of Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois (147 km southeast).
