Geographical Location
Western reason lies in the Bavarian Lower Main region in the district of Aschaffenburg on Westerbach and is part of the landscape Kahlgrund.
Since 1 July 2013, the geographical center of the European Union is due to the accession of Croatia to the European Union on the territory of the municipality in the district of Western reason Oberwestern (position ) 50.1172869.247768.

Name
Etymology
Your name, the municipality Western reason of their position in a side of the Kahlgrund. The name of Western reason derives from Westerbach (Originally Western bald or only Western) from which flows through it and empties into Schöllkrippen in the Kahl. Popularly the church " Weestern " is called.

Earlier spellings of various historical maps and documents. These forms of the name refer to the village of Upper Western.
History
The church today Westerngrund includes mostly areas that belonged to the Counts of Schönborn Office Krombach, the 1806 mediated by the Principality of Aschaffenburg and with this 1814 ( now a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt ) came to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria emerged with the community of 1818 the municipalities Huckelheim, Upper and Under Western Western, which were merged on 1 January 1972 the new congregation Western reason.

Mayor Joseph is Kilgenstein ( CSU / BWV ). He was the successor of Lothar Naumann ( CSU / BWV ) in 2002.
The municipal tax revenue amounted to the equivalent of € 661 thousand in 1999, which amounted to the trade tax revenues ( net) equivalent to € 28 thousand.

Coat of arms
Blazon: In a growing red, blue and blue reinforced golden crowned lion holding a golden shepherd shovel in the front paws; in the left Obereck two diagonally crossed silver miner hammers.
Coat of history: the lion in the crest, and the colors are the coat of arms of the Counts of Schönborn removed, until the end of the Old Kingdom in 1803 had the municipality. The held the lion shepherd shovel is the symbol of the Holy Wendelin, the patron saint of the church. The crossed miner hammers are available for the former silver and copper mines in the district Huckelheim. The community leads the crest since 24 March 1980.
