Wetterzeube

Wetterzeube is a municipality in Burgenland district, in Saxony -Anhalt. It belongs to the municipality of Droyßiger - Zeitz forestry based in Droyßig.

Geography

The village is located about 11 km southwest of Zeitz and 16 km north of Gera.

Adjacent communities are Droyßig and Kretzschau in the castle district and Crossen an der Elster and heathland in the Thuringian Saale- Holzland.

The municipalities of Breitenbach, Wetterzeube and Haynsburg joined on 1 January 2010, together with the new community Wetterzeube.

History

The first mention of Wetterzeube was 1209. According to the union with Podebuls the official place name was until June 30, 1950 Podebuls - Wetterzeube.

Incorporations

January 1, 2010 Breitenbach and Haynsburg were incorporated.

Attractions

The hall church in the district Pötewitz was built in 1114, is set in a bounded by a stone wall churchyard and has a three-winged altar. Another religious building is the nationally known Romanesque hall church in the district Schkauditz.

The castle has Haynsburg as the oldest part of a keep from the 11th century.

The Magpie bike path runs through the community.

Near Ross village is the Sachsenbergstraße, a frequently committed by hikers terrain. The Droyßiger forest in the northwest and the Zeitz forest in the east surround the villages in the municipality and have a good view of the valley of the Elster.
