Winnigstedt is a municipality in the district of Wolfenbüttel, in Lower Saxony at the border to Saxony- Anhalt. She is a member municipality of the velvet municipality Schoeppenstedt.

Geography

The place is close to the lowland area of the Great break. Up here extends a spur of the Magdeburg region, so the surroundings of the place on good agricultural soils has.

The municipality consists of the villages Winnigstedt ( until 1939 big and small Winnigstedt ) and Mattierzoll.

History

Was first documented Winnigstedt 1182 Winnincstede in a document on a bartered from Marienthal Monastery hooves. 1351 the monastery was transferred Riddagshausen the patronage of the church. In 1936 there were at Braunschweig space around the Völkenroder test flight area. From this area eleven agricultural farms were relocated to Winnigstedt. The newly built farm buildings created in the style of the historic " Lower House" ( Fachhallenhaus house). By 1945, the country bordered in Winnigstedt Brunswick to Prussia.

Limit point Mattierzoll

The south hamlet on Mattierzoll was for centuries the border area between different territories. After the Second World War, bordered here first the Soviet occupation zone, sometimes the GDR. In the 1950s, the border town was established on the west side as a railway junction. Here met the state railway ( Helmstedt - wood Minden ) on the Brunswick- Schöninger railway and the private railway Mattierzoll - Heudeber.

Culture and sights

Wind and water mills

Near the village there were several wind and water mills, what the names of drift on Mühlenbeek, mill stream and pond mill remember. The latter has already been demonstrated in 1551 and later belonged to the princely Vorwerk, from which developed the site. Under the current pond road through previously flowed the water from the pond into the Mühlradkammer. In a village of small description Winnigstedt (1750 ) tells of a watermill on Meesche ditch. She put forth until 1965, wheat and rye flour - last driven by a diesel engine. Until 1980, this grain was broken and operated a feed trade. The building is now used as a residence. To the rich history of the two water mills remember the water wheel in the former small Winnigstedt and some grinding stones.
