History

The villages Wetzleben and Hedeper were very early first documented Hedeper in 1188 and Wetzleben already 994

On the origin of the name " Hedeper " there are two suggestions:

  • The prefix - Hed probably comes from the old- had- " skewing, bending ," which is probably " on the hillside " for ( article in: Lexicon of Germanic archeology ). Similar prefixes can be found at the location in a slope / hill Hebborn and Hedemünden.
  • The suffix - by ( or over ) comes from the old- bearo " grove, wood", as in other places in the region: Iber, Heudeber and Reddeber ( onomastic studies on the problem of German Jürgen Udolph ).
