Heiningen, Lower Saxony

Hein Ingen is a municipality of the velvet municipality Oderwald ( based in Börßum ) in the southwestern part of the district Wolfenbüttel in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

Geography

Hein Ingen is at the southeastern edge of the forest, or, about eleven miles south of the county town of Wolfenbüttel, about six kilometers north of Schladen and nearly two kilometers west of Börßum. About four kilometers west leads the federal highway 395 past the village, which is accessible via the main road leading by Flöthe 512.

History

Important determinant for the place was the foundation of the monastery Heiningen around the year 1000 by the Foundation of the Saxon noble family of Bill Unger. Order in 1126 led the first monastic reform an Augustinian rules, at this time to have been begun the construction of the convent church as it is seen today.

During the Reformation period Hein Ingen came as a result of Hildesheim pin feud in Brunswick possession. The monastery Hein Ingen was repealed in 1810 and sold the associated country.

Religion

The Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul from the 12th century is the largest church in Heiningen, it belongs in Wolfenbüttel in 2006 to the parish of St. Peter.

Your opposite is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Luke. It belongs to Pfarrverband Hein Ingen - Werlaburgdorf based in Werlaburgdorf.

Blazon: The coat of arms shows a divided plate. In the upper silver field a three-door gate house with black roof and both sides abutting red wall. In the lower blue field two silver beard away crossed ( Peter ) key.

Culture and sights

The town's landmark is the Romanesque monastery church of St. Peter and Paul. The magnificent estate Heiningen served in the early 1950s as a location for a sentimental movie.

  • Joseph Müller ( born August 19, 1894 in Salmuenster in Hesse, † September 11, 1944 in Brandenburg), priest and martyr, was active from August 1943 to October 1937 as pastor of the Catholic parish in Heiningen. He was executed in 1944 by the Nazis.
