Schladen-Werla

The community Schladen - Werla is a unit municipality in the district Wolfenbüttel in Lower Saxony. On their area of ​​73.85 km ² live 8978 inhabitants.

History

Schladen - Werla was formed on November 1, 2013 the town of Horn Castle and the communities Gielde, Schladen and Werlaburgdorf. The Samtgemeinde Schladen, in which the four municipalities had previously joined, was dissolved by the same date. The municipal council and the mayor of the new municipality were selected previously.

Background were the population decline and the financial weakness of the former municipalities. An initially aspired by the Samtgemeinde Schladen merger with Samtgemeinde Oderwald did not materialize. All participating municipalities had then approved the merger to a unified community, which is to enable a reduction in administrative costs. The state of Lower Saxony has also pledged to interest and repayment assistance amounting to 11.4 million euros.

Villages in the municipality Schladen - Werla are Altenrode, Beuchte, Gielde, Hornburg, Isingerode, the nucleus and administrative headquarters Schladen, Tempelhof, weirs and Werlaburgdorf.

The local council of Schladen - Werla is made up of 22 council women and councilors. Then there is the directly elected mayor. The elections were held simultaneously with the general election of 2013.

Mayor

In the mayoral election, which also took place on September 22, 2013, Andreas Memmert sat on the first ballot by clearly against challenger Richard Steinhofgründe. Memmert was mayor already in the Samtgemeinde Schladen. It is a re-election.
