Youth Party – European Greens

The Stranka mladih - Zeleni Evrope ( German: Party of Youth - European Greens, short SMS Zeleni ) is a green party in Slovenia.

History

The party was founded in 2000 under the name Stranka mladih Slovenije ( German: Slovenian party of youth, short SMS).

On initial start of the 2000 general election the party achieved 4.34 percent. Thus they managed just leap over the four- percent threshold and could send four deputies to the National Assembly.

At the 2008 general election, the party joined in a joint list with the Slovenian People's Party ( SLS). The Alliance reached 5.21 percent and was therefore unable to secure five seats in the National Assembly.

Program

In its program, the party depends, inter alia for the following:

  • Good salary for all jobs and activities and the introduction of a universal basic income
  • Right to equal opportunities and employment
  • Improvement of environmental protection; to include the reduction of greenhouse gases and the transition to a carbon- free society
  • A green economic and financial policy: improving the competitiveness and sustainable development. In addition, a job promotion, but in polluting industries, the number of employees is to be reduced.
  • Reduction of polluting vehicles in traffic and for the promotion of alternative transport modes
  • An EU-wide regulation of the financial system and the imposition of a transaction tax. All tax havens should be abolished.
  • Abolition of conscription
  • Establishment of free kindergartens
