Zhoushan

Zhoushan (Ch舟山 市), formerly Chu - san, Tschouschan, is the name of a prefecture-level city in the south-eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang. Zhoushan is - besides Sansha and located on the island of Hainan Haikou and Sanya Cities - one of four prefecture-level cities in China that are exclusively on islands. The Zhoushan Islands are located east of Hangzhou Bay in the northeast of Zhejiang and near Shanghai. Covering an area of 1,440 square kilometers, 985,000 people (2003 ).

The prefecture-level city of Zhoushan is made up of two districts and two counties:

  • Municipality Dinghai (定海 区)
  • City Putuo District (普陀 区)
  • Circle Daishan (岱山 县),
  • Circle Shengsi (嵊泗县).

Shipbuilding

On the Zhoushan Islands several shipyards are to be found with Trockendockkapazitäten up to 300m.

Fishing

Zhoushan is the largest fishing area of China. The four known species of fish that are caught in Zhoushan, are the small and the large yellow croaker, octopus, and fish tape.

Traffic

In Zhoushan, there are several ports, including Dinghai Shenjiamen, Gaoting and Sijiao. From there, there are connections, especially to Shanghai, Ningbo, Wenzhou and Fuzhou. On the island Zhujiajian there is a civilian and a military airport on Daishan. 2009, a bridge was opened to traffic, connecting the island with Zhoushan of Ningbo City on the mainland.

Energy

Between Ningbo and Zhoushan was 1984-1987, the first HVDC in China, consisting moved from 42 km of overhead line and 12 km submarine cable. The operating voltage of the system is 100 kV, the maximum transmission power of 100 MW. A 220 kV transmission line that leads to the island, uses the highest pylons in the world.
