2010 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

The MLB All- Star Game 2010 was the 81st edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game between the representative teams of the American League (AL) and National League ( NL). It took place on 13 June 2010 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim instead. The team of the National League won for the first time since 1996, thereby securing the representative of the Netherlands in the 2010 World Series home field advantage. Before the game, a short memorial service for George Steinbrenner, the owner of the New York Yankees took place, who died on the morning of the game.

New Rules

First time in 2010 attacked some new rules for the All -Star Game. The designated hitter who comes only in the AL for use during the season, is now an integral part of the team of the National League. Before hanging the use of the Designated Hitters ( DH) on whether the All-Star Game in stage one American League team ( then with DH ) or a National League team ( then no DH ) took place. As the DH of the AL team so far is elected by the fans, while that of the NL team of its managers selected from a list of players is determined.

The roster of teams was increased to 34 players. Pitcher who started in the regular season in Sunday's game just before the All-Star Game, can not be used in the game as a pitcher. This rule was concerned this year three players of the AL teams: Trevor Cahill, CC Sabathia and Jered Weaver. They are nevertheless as All-Stars.

Finally, the rule was extended to the effect that a player who has already been replaced, can be used in the game again. Now the manager can use a has already been taken out of the game fielder again when the last available player has suffered an injury for the position in question.

Special Events

In the week of the All- Star Game All-Star Fan Fest at the Anaheim Convention Center was held. On July 11, the All-Star Futures Game and the All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game was performed. On 12 June, the MLB Home Run Derby 2010 was held at Angel Stadium, which was won by David Ortiz.

Following the announcement of the roster, a second vote was held to award the respective last remaining space on the roster. Online voting ran from 4 to 8 July 1010. The winners were Nick Swisher of the New York Yankees and Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds.

The first half was dominated by the pitchers. In the fifth inning of the NL baserunner had on the corners, but could not generate any run.
