Bouconville-Vauclair

Bouconville - Vauclair is a commune with 194 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Aisne in the Picardie region. It belongs to the district of Laon, which has given the whole territory of the name Laonnois, for Canton Craonne and community association Chemin des Dames.

Geography

The community is located about 14 kilometers southeast of Laon and about 30 kilometers north-west of Reims. A little west of the village lies the Parc Nautique de l' Ailette.

History

The municipality was formed in 1923 as Bouconville - Vauclerc. The early core of the community, the small settlement around the Abbey Vauclerc which is a ruin still preserved, was completely destroyed. About the Abbey was Bouconville - Vauclair intermediate stage on the Via Francigena between Laon and Corbeny.
