Bard, Aosta Valley

Bard [bar ] is a town of 130 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the Aosta Valley on the river Dora Baltea.

It consists of the districts Issert, Crous, Albard and Valsourda. The neighboring municipalities are Arnad, Donnas and HÃ'ne.

Bard belongs to the Comunità Montana Mont- Rose, an association of nine mountain communities of Valle d'Aosta, who want to jointly preserve the cultural heritage and promote tourism. Bard is also one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Worth seeing is the Bard Fortress, which was destroyed in 1800 by Napoleon, but was in the 19th century re- established and expanded.
