Ayas, Aosta Valley

Ayas is a town in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley. The municipality has 1397 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012), is located at an average altitude of 1698 m slm ( in Saint- Jacques) and has a size of 129 km ². The inhabitants are called Ayassini or Ayassins. Ayas is a member of the Association of Municipalities Comunità Montana Evançon and located in the Valle d' Ayas.

Ayas consists of the districts Antagnod, Champoluc, Cunéaz, Frachey, Lignod, Periasc, Pilaz and Saint Jacques. Champoluc is a famous winter resort.

The neighboring municipalities are Brusson, Chamois, Châtillon, Gressoney -La- Trinité, Gressoney -Saint- Jean, La Magdeleine, Saint -Vincent, Valtournenche and Zermatt ( Switzerland ).

During the Fascist period, the village was the Italianate name Aias.

The municipality is the richest Italian in the entire state, the average income per taxpayer in this case is 66 408 euros.

From the hamlet of Saint -Jacques, you can ascend to the mountain huts Rifugio Grand Tournalin Guide Refuge della Val d' Ayas and Rifugio Ottorino Mezzalama.
