Valtournenche

Valtournenche is a town in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley.

The municipality has 2169 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The actual resort Valtournenche is 1,330 m above sea level. M. in the homonymous valley Valtournenche. Through the valley flows the marbles.

Valtournenche is the historical capital of the valley. It consists of the main town Pâquier (1528 m) and the villages Losanche (1640 m), Crépin (1577 m), Crétaz (1502 m), Barmasse, Bioley, Brengaz, Busserailles, Chaloz, Châtelard, Champ l' Eve Cheneil CHEPERON, Tsignanaz, Clou, Cré, Cré -du -Pont, Duerche, EUILLAZ, La Fontaine Muranche, La Vénaz, Layet, Laviel, Le Lou ( Loz ), Maen, Maisonasse, Montaz, Moulin, Mont- Mené, Mont -Perron, Pâquier ( chef-lieu ), Pecou, Les Perrères, Saix, Servaz, Singlin, Tourtourouse, Ussin, Valmartin and Breuil (2003 m).

The place is considered the cradle of alpinism in Italy. From there began in the 19th century expeditions to about 12 km away Matterhorn. To Valtournenche includes, but is the resort of Breuil -Cervinia and 2003 m above sea level. M., from there usually start from the Matterhorn ascents of the Italian south.

The neighboring municipalities are Antey -Saint -André, Ayas, Bionaz, Chamois, Torgnon and Zermatt ( Switzerland ).

From 1939 to 1946, it bore the name Italianate Valtornenza.
