Valsavarenche

Valsavarenche is an Italian municipality in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley. The municipality has 179 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012), is located at an average altitude of 1540 m slm and has a size of 138 km ². The highest point in the municipality is the Gran Paradiso (French Grand Paradis ) with 4061 m.

Valsavarenche consists of the districts Degioz, Bien, Luni, Tignet, Eau Roussex, Pont and Molère. The neighboring communities are called Aymavilles, Ceresole Reale ( TO), Cogne, Introd, Noasca (TO), Rhêmes -Notre -Dame, Rhêmes -Saint-Georges and Villeneuve.

The scattering community Valsavarenche lies along the road that leads through the Valsavarenche, a southern tributary of the Aosta Valley. The community is located within the Gran Paradiso National Park. Valsavarenche is the starting point for ascents to the shelters Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II, Rifugio Chabod and Rifugio Città di Chivasso.

During the period of fascism was the place 1939-1946 by the Italianate name Valsavara, then until 1976 the name Valsavaranche.
