La Magdeleine

La Magdeleine is a small Italian comune in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley. La Magdeleine has 110 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) and lies at an altitude of 1644 m above sea level. M. on Valtournenche, a side valley of Val d'Aosta. In the village there is a merger of five small hamlets. Of present Mayor (it. syndic, French Syndic ) of the municipality is Edi Emilio Dujany.

The neighboring municipalities are Antey -Saint -André, Ayas, Chamois and Châtillon. La Magdeleine is a member of Mountain Community Monte Cervino (French Communauté de montagne Mont Cervin ).

History

Paleontological discoveries origin point to a use of the place already to the Iron Age. In the Middle Ages, the village was part of the Signoria of Cly. Economically, it was closely connected with the community Châtillon.

During the Fascist period, the village was the Italianate name La Maddalena d' Aosta. By 1959, La Magdeleine was not reached by a paved road. The village was with the valley ( Antey -Saint -André ) by a mule track. This mule tracks are still usable, although they are used for tourism purposes.

Over time, the community has lost a great many people, as many have emigrated or moved to the cities.

Geography

La Magdeleine consists of five hamlets or, as they are officially called, five Hameau. These are Brengon, Clou, Vieu, Artaz and Messelod.

The village lies at the foot of the Mont Tantané, which is slightly less than 2700 m above sea level is high.
